Te Papa x Massey

Final project for second year fashion studio - a collaboration with Te Papa's Costume Department (NZ's National Museum). Taking inspiration from a 1855 green dress, I designed a contemporary outfit which explores the change in modesty from then to today. I made an oversized shirt and a miniskirt inspired by the panelling lines, colours and military frogging detail on the historic dress. To show the shift in modesty I used a sheer fabric so the figure is visible while still being fully covered to the knees. The panelling is made to reference underwear, discussing the underwear-as-outwear trend in current fashion culture.
