Playful Streetwear

Fourth year competition paper project - I chose to create a look to enter in the Open Streetwear section of the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards. This project aims to challenge the stereotypical streetwear style by creating a playful and colourful alternative. Drawing inspiration from independent streetwear brands and designers, I created an outfit with a child-like sense of fun to encourage people to embrace colour and play with dress.

All of the pieces in this outfit play with oversized scale through big boxy silhouettes and pockets. I designed the face motif for the culottes and used digital embroidery to stitch it onto hounds tooth fabric, creating my own textile. I also quilted the squiggly pattern for the whole outer of the jacket myself. The jacket has a detachable extension, allowing it to be two different lengths. These details give the outfit an extra level of playfulness and fun.

I received an Open Merit Award from the Hokonui Fashion Design Awards for this outfit.
