'Everything is So Boring in Adultland’ is a conceptual collection which explores my memories of dressing up. It aims to inspire others to carry a childlike playfulness and sense of freedom with dress into their adult life. Inspired by my childhood photos and my favourite childhood book, many of the shapes and design lines come from clothing I wore as a kid and the dress up games I used to play. It is designed to look like children have raided their parents’ closet.

The collection is made up of a mixture of fitted and oversized garments, the former accentuating the scale of the latter. Using a combination of flat patternmaking and freehand draping in many of the oversized garments, it resulted in interesting scrunching and gathering effects while still having tailored aspects. I also developed my own block for the fitted tops and oversized shirt with non-traditional seam placement, moving and eliminating the seams at the shoulder and side. These experimental patternmaking techniques, along with the colourful and clashing fabrics, bring an extra level of childlike playfulness to the project.

This was my graduate collection which was shown in Massey's Exposure Exhibition and Fashion show.
